Relay: gold to Denmark and Switzerland

The Danes ruled the World Championships relay in Alonte. The Nordic athletes won the fifth and sixth medal of the week, and they were both gold: first place for the Men (Bjarke Refslund, Lasse Brun Pedersen, Erik Skovgaard Knudsen) and also for the Juniors Rasmus Søgaard, Andreas Bergmann, and Andreas Proschowsky.

The newcomer is Switzerland: Maja Rothweiler, Ursina Jäggi and Christine Schaffner won the first gold medal for their country in this edition of WMTBOC. As predictable the junior women title went to Russia (Tatiana Oborina, Tatiana Repina, Svetlana Poverina)

It was a great show in S. Savina square in Alonte, that hosted the mass start and the finish arena, as well as a public control. Mr. Giancarlo Padovan and Marko Kantaneva were the main guests. The medal giving ceremony was held with the presence of Roberto Ciambetti, councillor of Veneto Region, the mayor of Alonte Luigi Tassoni, the councillor for sports Stefania Brun, the IOF delegats Edmond Szechenyi, the President of the Italian Federation Sergio Grifoni and Federico Tassoni, president of Collis Wine Group, title sponsor of this World Championships with the brand Cantine Riondo.

"The World Championships in my homeland are a dream that came true" event director Gabriele Viale said. "I thank all my countrymen for the great support. I was involved for 15 years in event planning, all over the world as a pioneer with the legend of Orienteering Jörgen Mårtensson. This period now is over".

The World MTBO Championships week will end with the sprint competition tomorrow, Saturday, in Sossano, with start and finish in the velodrome arena. The closing ceremony will be in "Parco di villa Gazzetta" in Sossano.
